Task 1- Uses of Interactive media
Interactive media has many functions. it's primary method are videos. other forms include photos, sound bites, and gifs.
the applications for digital videos include short films which are films but are roughly 10 to 30 minutes long maximum, they could be promotional material such as adverts on Television or on the internet about new hygiene product or a political campaign and trailers for new video games, film trailers their main point is to entice new audiences to go and see it by showing the viewers exciting /enticing shots that would draw them in, in between the actual game play of video games there are videos called cut scenes they are usually created through animated /motion capture or though not very often and usually it is seen with movie tie-in-games.
There are many platforms interactive media can be shown through. A person could use Emails to send a video to another as long as the video is a certain size however if you wanted to send a larger video file, the file would need to be compressed, there are numerous websites that play videos on the internet some of the most notable websites include YouTube, Daily Motion, and Vide Me. In regards to mobile devices they can be used to view or record videos which will inevitably released on to social media. When DVD's were first released back in the early 2000's the buyer could either purchase the single disk release which just came with the movie or the double disk release which featured the Behind the scenes featurettes such as costuming, stunts which showed the production processes of making the completed film.
When files are too large to email or if you want to make it easier to upload One would need to compress the file in order to make the transference quicker. There are two types of compression Lossy and Lossless, Lossy compression is where the quality of the received video is lesser then when it was sent. when the file is compressed what happens is that partial data discarding and inexact approximations because of how the data is encoded. Lossless compression is where it remains the same level of quality and exact approximations of the data encoding from when it was sent.
The reason there is different file formats is because different platforms will only accept a certain number of formats, for example YouTube allows .MP4, .AVI, etc. When it comes to what file format is better it depends on which platform the video is shown on for example YouTube the best file format in my opinion .MP4 but on daily motion it could that .AVI is the best format.
The Difference between streaming and downloading is that when you stream something you need a decent broadband/ Wi-Fi connection in order to watch the video's content where as with Downloading you can watch the video when ever but there is the possibility that when it was downloaded the file compression could have been a lossy compression.
As stated before different file formats work better for different platforms. also depends on the preferences of the Platform's developer and how they designed the programs that run the file.
File size is a matter of the platform as well because if a video is sent via email that it would need to be compressed and there is good chance the file's quality would be poor
