Unit 15 - creating a small business for media Task 1B

The projects I managed for Ufilms was burning all the completed films on to disks that were to be sold. To do this I had to liaise with Editing staff of Ufilms to get the completed videos as well as the frame work for the disk menus which took far longer then t should due to problems that arose due to the computers not having enough processing power . In order to make sure that the disks were properly prepared we had to computers set up one that would burn the menu and files to the disks and the other was to make sure that the disks were all in order once that was done I handed them over to the editing staff who would do their own checks and to label the disks.

My final project for Ufilms was to turn my documentary  from a previous into a tutorial resource for schools and colleges about autism and Asperger's syndrome and how people suffer from it are different and how they see the world. However I am working with Taylor Henderson in order to re edit the film due to it not having very tight editing and is a bit loose narrative wise and several other flaws in it. Matthew Taylor is also helping with editing the documentary so that he can get a final grade for his documentary assignment

Unit 15 Media based Small Business - Task 1a (ii) Report on Ufilms report

Ufilms is a small business set up by Film & Television Production Students at Stockton Riverside College. The purpose of Ufilms is to provide media products, mainly for the college but we have done other things as well, such as promos for the college, recording the Christmas and end of year performances for the theatre students we also burn them to DVD's. We have also filmed a client's wedding.

Ufilms is ran by Danniella Cooper who is CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Ufilms she is essentially the Boss Lady, Jess Bramfitt is 2nd in command of Ufilms she is accounting for Ufilms which means she controls the budgets for each project we have, including petrol money. the Human resources manager is Matthew Taylor his job is to make sure that everyone is feeling motivated. distribution managers are Ben Siddle and myself, Jordan Reed. it is our job to burn the films to disks so that they can be sold to the clients. Everyone however helps with filming and editing the different projects. We also have a presence on Social Media namely Facebook; Twitter and Instagram.

When discussing the project with the clients we make them sign a contract stating that we have to receive the promised amount by a certain time period before that we are paid a deposit by the client.
We charge the client:
  • £8 per hour for editing the final piece.
  • the individual disks cost £5
  • Use of a single camera and operator £8 per hour.
There are some projects that we have yet to receive payment for but that technically not a Ufilms project the Ufilms staff were involved filming/photographing and editing the final product.
our most frequent client is the organisation Page2Stage who do children's parties as well as theatre performances.

We market Ufilms on our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as our former clients who's recommendations point their friends and families towards us. we also have a website however that is rarely used as most people book through Facebook.

Ufilms has highlighted how to run a small business by showing us how that if clients have not paid  by the agreed time we must keep pushing for the promised payment or put interest on it. how to manage scheduling with our other projects so we don't mix them up with any of the other projects.

Ufilms obtains it's resources from Stockton Riverside College, Film & Television Production Department mainly it's camera equipment and it's editing software, in order to film and edit the product.

Unit 15 - small business in media task 1a (i)

Unit 15 task 1a sources.

This source informs on how the logistics on forming a small business in general but in regards for media based small business the logistics include identifying what kind of media. Because there is photography; computer game development, but beyond all of that in a media business.

Structure is the most important as such you have the senior management, the Accounting who keeps track of the business’ budget and makes sure that we get paid, The production crews who film/ photograph what we are paid to film/ take photographs of. The editing teams who make sure that the final product is put together, the distribution manager who burns the completed films/ photographs to disks and makes sure that they are ready for the client to claim.

Products made by a small media based business include films such as weddings, award ceremonies, and theatre productions to be sold, or Ecards a recorded message possibly for either Valentine’s Day or Christmas.

Media based small businesses tend to operate by advertising themselves on line via social media for example Facebook or twitter using their former clients as a way of advertising and by providing with a quality final product as a way to convince said former clients to come to them again.

Notes: we did not have a full crew because they were either ill or unavailable due to family commitments.

I arrived in college at Three in the afternoon to await the rest of the filming crew who arrived soon afterwards. We then had to wait for rehearsals for the acting students to end at half Three so the actors could get there make-up on. while the actors were getting there make-up applied. my self; Matty Dickens; and Chloe Handley made sure we had all the correct equipment mainly the tripod, The camera and an SD card.

I went back and forth frequently to see how the make-up girls were getting on. once the make-up was finished being applied myself, Betty, Connor and Connor's sister went to the Green Room (SRC Room 229) once myself and the rest of the production crew gathered the equipment we set out to Trinity Mews to film the scene where Connor's character would be hit by a car. because we were filming in the middle of a road we developed a code word as warning if a car was coming or not. The code was Mississippi. Myself and Chloe took turns standing at the end of the road looking to see if a car was coming. once shooting that scene was complete we went back the College to shoot a pickup from the last time we were shooting. The shot was where Betty was walking into SRC 2 which when she was spotted by Connor's character who stood up from his wheel chair and fell over. once filming that scene was completed it was a wrap

PMP Production diary: 15/05/2017

Today I was working on Chloe's PMP as Boom Operator.
the scenes we filmed were at Stockton Riverside College and Campion Close In Ingleby Barwick.

The scenes that were filmed at SRC were set in a classroom meant to be as a therapists office.
the first scene was when another therapist comes in to discuss an persistent client and what to do about her.
The Second Scene we shot was where the therapist was having a session with her female client about her abusive boyfriend.
The third was where the therapist was speaking with her male client who is actually her female's client's abusive ex-boyfriend who is using her to find his former victim. once we were done filming at the college we departed to Campion Close in Ingleby Barwick.
The location was the home of fellow crew member Kane Smith. it served as the home for the therapist.
The first scene we shot at Campion Close was when the therapist angrily confronted the abusive boyfriend who was using the therapist's laptop to lure his victim there
