The reason I enjoy Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers is the sense of scale. That Middle Earth is much bigger then we thought and the characters are superbly added on to with the stakes rising higher then the first movie, but not as high as the third movie.
The movie's sets are beautifully designed, and the locations are amazingly chosen. The Battle for Helms Deep was fantastic, the camera angles, the armours of the respective armies, the banter that the characters share, and the music my god the music. Howard Shore's compositions are epic and not to mention this is where the sense of urgency and the feeling of desperation as the battle goes on.
There are however a few problems in that almost everyone except the main and supporting cast aren't killed when they should be. Like when the main wall of helms deep is blown up the character we care about only get a few scratches at minimum.
The cast is joined by several more characters who were beautifully cast, Bernard Hill who portrays Theoden King of the country of Rohan, Karl Urban and Miranda Otto who play Theoden's nephew and niece Eomer and Eowyn respectively. David Wenham plays Faramir Captain of Gondor's armies and younger Brother of Boromir.
