Unit 27 - Task 1

In factual film making Accuracy is important because the point of a documentary is that it tells facts and if the fact are incorrect then the audience may misinterpret the events in another way that the documentary's creator did not intend. The job of a documentary is that it tells both sides of events in a balanced manner this ties into accuracy, bias and opinion and representation.


When making a documentary the interviewer and narrator must remain impartial and tell the documentary's story as an outsider and not let their opinion and bias towards the subject cloud what they are saying because that could make the documentary inaccurate.


when it come to documentary's, the producer must remain on topic and not veer off on a tangent. when making a documentary you must stay on the one subject that your documentary while you may add other pieces of information it must be relevant to the story of the documentary.


As stated above Opinion can either have a positive effect for the documentary or it could have a detrimental effect on the documentary. The point of a factual film such as documentary is to inform and persuade people of events. For example during the second World War England and it's allies were the ones who won and the Nazis lost the war so we vilify them (which I don't blame them for there was the slaughter of 16 million Jewish innocents) but imagine I the Allies lost the war and the Nazis won if they made the documentaries instead of us we would be the ones vilified not us.


Bias is like opinion it depends on your perspective on how events played out and what you think of the people involved or how you portray the events to the audience, for example when taking over Germany Adolf Hitler portrayed the Jewish people as villainous and twisted and Hitler blamed the Jews for the why the Germans lost the 1st world war as well as the economic crisis Germany faced in the 1920's. He manipulated the facts to suit his plans.


Representation is extremely important because it ties into both opinion and bias because your opinion and bias could lead to some one being mis-represented in the re-enactment footage of the documentary. for example say that the documentary was re-enacting investigation of a crashed airliner you or a war documentary you could portray some one as either an idiot or  as some one completely vile and despicable. Portrayal is representation.


When interviewing people, one has to be careful not be too intrusive because the subject may be to sensitive for the contributor to speak about. it is important that you know where and when to push people or ask them the questions you want answering but the contributor is unwilling to give those answers.


when making a documentary the producer has a contract with the audience to tell the facts truthfully without mis-representing people, without bias influencing the production of the documentary and with partiality
