Unit 26 - assignment 2 task 2 - Producers and their Audiences

This task I am going to talk about my favourite film Star Wars The Force Awakens and about it's production and it's marketing strategy.
The producer (Kathleen Kennedy) identified the target audience by knowing who the audience of the previous films were. The audience was attracted by not only the name but the promise of a return to form for the Franchise after the Prequel trilogy failed plot wise. The Producers targeted a teenage audience by getting the film a 12 A rating it received this rating by submitting it to the BBFC for certification and guidance on how to make it a 12 A film

The general consensus from the target audience for the new film was that there needed to be more practical effects, and sets unlike the prequels which was mainly green screen and digital effects.

The film is set thirty years after Return of the Jedi, It features both the cast of the Original trilogy and new cast as well. the plot of the film is about making sure that a map to Luke Skywalker does not fall into the hands of the Evil Galactic Empire's fanatical successors The First Order. The main stars of the film are Daisy Ridley who portrays Rey a desert scavenger who takes her first steps into a larger world, Finn a former storm Trooper who defected from the First Order, Poe Dameron an ace resistance Pilot whose round astromech Droid BB8 carries the map to Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren a former Jedi apprentice who idolises Darth Vader.

the Film was distributed by The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures across the US with 4000+ screens making it the biggest domestic release in all time across the United states. the Film made Sixty million dollars in pre-release ticket sales alone. and in the UK the film was shown on 2500+ screens and 670 cinemas in Ireland.
The film was marketed and advertised through various Books that filled in the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, trailers, the official merchandise for the film was released on Friday 4th of September 2015. The film was distributed worldwide by Walt Disney studios. The film's soundtrack was released December 18 2015.

the publicity for the Film started on November 18 2014 with the first teaser trailer a whole year before the film was released. but before that the title of the film was released earlier in the month and even before that there was a cast photo with Director JJ Abrams the photo was released onto social media and into various film magazines. further teaser trailers were released in the following months there were Comic-con appearances. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher also appeared on Graham Norton's BBC chat show's Christmas special along with the newer cast members John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. which helped to create publicity. The Film was reviewed in newspapers and Film Magazines such as Empire Magazine and featured numerous alternate covers. the film also had numerous product tie-ins such as fruit, make-up this also generates attention and income

The Film was a financial success not only because of the marketing and advertising but also the fan base that Star wars possesses millions of fans world wide would come to watch it simply because it is a Star wars Movie like the prequel trilogy. The film in total grossed $2 billion worldwide

The Force Awakens was nominated for five academy Awards and 4  British Academy Film Awards where it won the award for Best Special Effects, It won five Awards of Empire Magazine's 21 film awards.

To build up to the film A series of comic books and novels were released that told the story of what happened after the conclusion of the original trilogy.
To also build up to the film's release there was a charity campaign set by Lucasfilm and Disney and the ones who donated the most would get to feature in the film as an extra
